Silicon Nitride ( Si3N4 ) Nanopowder General Description
An extremely fine powder composed of silicon nitride particles of approximately 20nm in diameter, this material has been heavily researched and applied
across various industries in recent years. As the potential of nanomaterials becomes increasingly obvious and well-understood, researchers and engineers
find more and more ways to utilize this and other nanoparticles.
Silicon Nitride ( Si3N4 ) Nanopowder Applications
• Metallurgy. Like many nanomaterials, the potential of silicon nitride has been heavily investigated by experts in the metallurgy industry, resulting in its involvement in the production of various wear-resistant coatings.
• Material composites. Manufacturers of various composite materials such as graphite, rubber, ceramics, metal alloys, adhesives, and plastics have experimented with silicon nitride nanoparticles as an additive or key ingredient in recent years.
• Aviation and military hardware. Military and aeronautics hardware manufacturers have found applications in the development of missiles and rockets, particularly the nozzles and pipes of such devices.
• Mechanical devices. Due to its benefits in handling friction and general wear, silicon nitride nanopowder has seen extensive use in coatings and other applications for sleeves, valves, cutting edges, bearings, turbines, and various other surfaces prone to extensive wear and tear. Silicon nitride works especially well in more intense applications due to its general resistance to oxidation at high temperatures and general corrosion resistance.
